W.C. of Sweden 2012
Whippet Club of Sweden 31.03.2012
Dog critique
My thanks to the officers and committee of the Whippet Club of Sweden for asking me to assist Editha Newton when the entry she drew exceeded the limits set by the Swedish Kennel Club. We were both given a warm welcome and had a really great weekend.
I was delighted to have the opportunity to judge the male whippets while Editha fulfilled her appointment with the bitches.
My ring secretaries Anna and Kristina were both competent and efficient and made the task of judging, to an unfamiliar system, very easy for me.
The overall standard of the dogs was not quite as I expected – there were a few who lacked any quality, some poor toplines and a few rather wide fronts. However, profile movement, on the whole, was very good.
Most of the dogs were masculine and I saw no pricked ears at all! There were also very few dirty teeth – a credit to the exhibitors.
I was very pleased with my class winners and delighted that Editha chose my best dog as Best in Show he was – “Inner Circles Don’t Say A Word” and was the winner of the Intermediate class. He was real quality, masculine without being coarse, a nice size, balanced, well made all through and moved soundly, with good drive and excellent front extension, covering the ground well. At 20 months he surely has a very bright future ahead of him.
2nd Best Dog won the Champion Class – “Burnt Sienna Midsummer Headline” this dog was a worthy champion. Well balanced, masculine with a lovely outline. He had good depth of chest and excellent rear quarters. Good feet. Moved very well as you would expect with his conformation, with good drive from the rear and extending out well in front.
3rd Best Dog was from the Junior class – “Khalibadh Vintermane” Lovely head and expression. Good neck and shoulders with excellent front angulation. Good underline and tuck up. Very sound mover with good extension. Another youngster with a very promising future to look forward to.
4th Best Dog was from the Open Class – “Tajmahal Hipper-Dipper” Very sound male with lovely front and rear angulation and good pasterns. Long tail. Good length overall and a very good mover both from the front and in profile.
After our judging was finished we were both presented with a beautiful linen table runner, decorated with Moose (or is it Mooses) and to finish the ‘new’ committee were generous enough to present me with a delicious Swedish birthday cake, – thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.
I am very much looking forward to my return trip in July – as a spectator!
